We will be learning from passionate people who are working to protect natural habitat within urban areas that invite wildlife to pass freely from one area to another, and allow these urban habitats to adapt to climate change. Meet the plants and animals that call this place home and then enjoy lunch and play at a park with friends before heading back!
Students will be picked up at Finkbiner Park in Glendora with HFAC staff and will head to LaCrescenta to learn with the Arroyos and Foothills Conservancy. Afterwards, we will go to the park next to the preserve to have lunch and free time. The bus will return to Finkbiner for pick-up.
Educational activities included for before and after the field trip!
More information from the conservancy:
Our curricula is compliant with the STEM Education Act. Trained docents lead students through our preserves, teaching them about wildlife and wildlife corridors, native plants and ecology, geology, watersheds, Traditional Ecological Knowledge, Indigenous culture and history, and land stewardship. Take a look at applicable Next Generation Science Standards here.
• Field Trips take place at our Rosemont Preserve in La Crescenta. While being lead through the preserve, students are immersed in the scents and sounds of our foothills. While catching glimpses of elusive wildlife, they learn about restoration and stewardship practices, and remote wildlife tracking and photography.
• HFAC will be doing a service activity! Participating in AFC programs meets educational and community service requirements while inspiring students to explore environmental studies and become future land stewards.
This is a fun way to wrap up our Spring session together! We hope all students can participate with their peers. If you have any questions, please reach out to me at hfadventurecommunity@gmail.com or 626-485-0540
